Black Wolf, White Wolf

Loup noir, Loup blanc, by Patrick Fischmann and Aurélia Fronty

A Cherokee legend tells of the Black Wolf (violence) and the White Wolf (kindness) that coexist within us. Storyteller Patrick Fishmann shows how this is seen in human behaviour and turns the parable into a celebration of life.

One path is that of war; the village of the hero and his grandson has just been destroyed . . . The other path is that of the WhiteWolf, which promotes harmony with animals, the river and the entire natural world. One evening, the boy asks: ‘Grandfather, which of the two wolves wins?’ The one you feed!’ replies the old man. And the boy chooses one of the two paths.

A powerful allegory brought to life by Aurélia Fronty’s folk-art-style illustrations. Children need to learn about peace.

The two conflicting wolves inside us (and in the world!)
