Le tambour, by Jeanne Saboureault
A magnificent debut picture book centered around sound, carried by a courageous and determined mute child.
Siméon is a child like any other, almost: he doesn’t speak, he only plays his drum. So when his cherished drum vanishes on the eve of his 6th birthday, things get much more challenging. After searching the house for days, Siméon decides to look for his companion in the large garden. He’s even willing to venture into the big forest, around the mountain. He must find his drum.
During his adventure, Siméon will face the night and the unknown, listening to the sounds and silences of nature. He will uncover new aspects of his personality, and maybe find his own voice?
