Avez-vous vu la Reine?, by Gay Wegerif
What does the Queen look like? We are given some clues: she wears a golden crown, a pearl necklace, shiny shoes and a nice handbag. Oh, really? Does she? All the animals are eagerly waiting for her. From page to page, the reader finds analogies between the animals’ shapes and the Queen’s accessories: the cat-handbag, the mice-shoes, or the butterfly-flounced dress. When the Queen finally shows up, she comes as a combination of all the shapes. A book for toddlers which conjures up Gay Wegerif’s very British humour, a very British Queen, and a very fun punch line.
