100 Contemporary Artists’ Studios

100 Ateliers d’artistes d’aujourd’hui, by Guy Boyer, photographs by Antoine Schneck

What is the most intimate space for artists? Their studio, which is their place of reflection, creation, and sometimes even life… This beautiful, precious book brings together portraits of 100 visual artists from all generations and with diverse aesthetics. Whether they are major figures or emerging voices, they all reveal themselves in their workspaces.

Antoine Schneck has developed an exclusive photographic process: in a single image, the artist appears from several angles, in different postures and at different moments. These ‘multiple portraits’, similar to the sequential narration of a comic strip or the vertical reading of a stained-glass window, reveal the creative process as well as the human presence in all its concentration and energy.

Guy Boyer, for his part, gives a voice to the artists. Based on interviews conducted during his visits, he contextualises the image, shedding light on the gestures, choices and silences, adding a literary and sensitive dimension to this visual journey.
